The CHAI organization and its residents are an integral part of the Dallas community. Residents enrich the life of the community and the people with whom they interact. Whenever possible, residents hold regular jobs in the community, and they are often out and about, dining in restaurants and attending movies, plays, and musical and sports events. They enjoy going to temples and synagogues, Shabbat and Holiday dinners.

CHAI residents also participate in Jewish community events, such as the Kosher Chili Cook-off, the Jewish Arts Fest, and the Purim Carnival at Golden Acres Home of the Jewish Aged. CHAI residents volunteer their services at such events.

There are many opportunities for the community to volunteer services to CHAI. Residents appreciate being treated to evenings out. The most treasured contribution volunteers can make is one-on-one personal time with residents - crafts, conversation, and getting to know friends in the community.

Other volunteer opportunities include fundraising, helping with the ongoing maintenance of the CHAI homes, and providing job opportunities for the residents.
